I received several alerts and emails about a factory recall, so I called to schedule a service. The dealership initially told me they didn’t have the parts and asked me to check back in 3-4 weeks. However, they called me back within an hour and asked if I could bring the car in that same day. They provided me with a brand new loaner as a rental, free of charge, and kept my Ariya. They mentioned that it was a potential safety hazard and needed to be taken off the road. It's been nearly four weeks now.

Is it possible to get out of the lease? I’ve had the car for 15 months on a 36-month lease. I wasn’t given any estimate on how long the repairs would take. I’m in New Jersey, could I apply the lemon law to end the lease early? Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Immediately contact Nissan and discuss having one or two of your lease payments covered since you haven't been able to use your vehicle for the past month.

A recall for a safety hazard that takes weeks to fix is not good at all. Whether or not you can use the lemon law to get out of your lease in New Jersey depends on the specifics of the law and how it applies to leases. Generally, lemon laws cover substantial defects that impair the use, value, or safety of the vehicle, and often require a reasonable number of repair attempts. Since it's been nearly four weeks with no estimated repair time, you might have a case, but it's crucial to consult with a lawyer specializing in lemon law. They can advise you on the specific requirements in NJ and whether your situation qualifies. Keep meticulous records of everything. All communication with the dealer and Nissan, the recall notices, loaner agreements, etc. Don't rely on online forums for legal advice; a lawyer is your best bet here. Good luck!
