I’m thinking of hooking up a 12V cooler box in my Ariya, but I’m a little worried about draining the battery. I know leaving the car running with the 12V outlet on will kill the battery eventually, but what about pressing the start button without the brake?

Will that still drain the battery? or is there a better way to use the 12V outlet without risking it?

Ok, so when the car’s off, the front ports - USB and 12V - stay on, which can slowly drain the 12V battery since it's not that big. The car tries to top it up now and then from the traction battery, but if the 12V battery gets too low to trigger the safety interconnect, you're kinda out of luck. Even if you try turning the car on - brake pedal or not - it'll just shut itself off again after about half an hour if it's left in park. Unfortunately, there’s no solid way to keep it powered for longer, though a Dog Mode-like feature would totally fix that.

The front USB and 12V ports stay powered even when the car is off, which can drain the 12V battery. The car tries to recharge it from the main battery, but it won't work if the 12V battery is too low.

Leaving the car on in Park only keeps it running for about 30 minutes. There's no reliable way to keep the car powered this way.

Just avoid using the color in accessory mode for too long. Also, use ready mode when you can to keep the 12V system charged.

Using a 12V cooler in your Ariya can be tricky even if you just turn the car on without driving it'll still drain the 12V battery. While the car does try to recharge it from the main battery a cooler box might be too much for it. To avoid problem it's best to only use the cooler while you're driving. If you need it when parked get a separate battery power station for it. That way you won't risk draining your car's battery and you can even charge the power station while you drive.
