I recently installed a ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 charger for my 2023 Nissan Ariya Engage, and I thought I’d share my setup and experience in case it helps anyone else.

I opted for a 220VAC NEMA 14-50 outlet instead of hardwiring the unit. Out of the box, the Home Flex is set to a default of 16 amps, which isn’t ideal for faster charging. I reached out to ChargePoint customer service, and they remotely adjusted it to a 40-amp max load since I have a 50-amp circuit breaker installed. They just needed my unit to be connected to Wi-Fi to make the change. After a couple of resets, everything worked perfectly.

If you hardwire the unit and upgrade to a higher-rated circuit breaker, you can push the max load up to 48 amps, but that requires a licensed electrician to ensure your wiring and panel can handle it. According to the service manual:
  • A 50-amp breaker (like mine) gives you 40 amps, charging about 30 miles/48 km per hour.
  • A 60-amp breaker provides 48 amps, charging around 36 miles/60 km per hour.
  • A 70- or 80-amp breaker also charges at 36 miles/60 km per hour, but requires hardwiring.
Since having my unit adjusted to 40 amps, charging at home has been much faster and more convenient. I highly recommend the ChargePoint Home Flex if you’re looking for a reliable Level 2 charger. Just make sure you consult an electrician if you plan to go beyond 40 amps! Curious how others are setting theirs up!

The ChargePoint Home Flex is solid, but it’s frustrating that it defaults to 16A out of the box, not exactly maximizing its potential. Good call on getting ChargePoint to adjust it remotely. That 40A sweet spot seems like the best balance between speed and cost without needing a full hardwired setup. Have you noticed any heat buildup at the plug or panel, or is it running cool?
