I’m about to get my hands on an Ariya, and I'm curious about its ability to power external devices. So I’m thinking about hooking up a speaker system to the 12V outlet for a short parade. But like, is that even doable?

Has anyone out there tried running gadgets with their Ariya? Would a short, grandma speed drive drain the battery a ton or mess with the car’s system?

I don't think you risk something if it is a low-powered speaker. But if the speaker is a high-powered one, then expect a fuse to blow, or at least the 12V battery to drain faster than you want. So, what speaker do you have?

The manual says the 12V battery’s all good as long as the cars’ running, like when you're driving. But, it throws in a little warning about using it with stuff like the AC, headlights, or rear window defroster. Also; it recommends not going over 120W (or 10A) and definitely no double adapters or too many accessories plugged in at once. So yeah… just keep that in mind!

It is doable. Ariya's got both USB ports and a good old-fashioned 12V socket. Plenty of juice for most portable speakers, no worries there.

@LostDude We need more details.

What kind of outlet are you plugging this thing into? Regular AC wall socket, or one of those 12V cigarette lighter ports? Also, what kind of speaker system are we talking about here?

Using your Ariya as a sound system for a parade is a cool idea. You can plug speakers into the 12V outlet but watch how much power they use. For a slow parade it should be fine because the car's main battery keeps the 12V battery charged. But if you use really powerful speakers or run them for too long it could drain the 12V battery and cause problems. Check the 12V battery level on the car's screen and if it gets low turn the speakers down or drive the car more to recharge. Use a fuse with your speakers for safety.
